A Landmark Battery Energy Storage System Has Been Successfully Commissioned in Egypt by Dubai's AMEA Power

AMEA Power, a rapidly expanding renewable energy company in the region, is pleased to announce that Egypt's first utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) has been successfully commissioned. The 300 MWh solar PV-powered plant was delivered before its COD, or planned commercial operation date. Following the project's recent financial close, this milestone represents a significant advancement in AMEA Power's plan to enhance grid stability and energy security in emerging countries.

The 500MW solar PV plant in Aswan Governorate, Egypt, which was put into service by AMEA Power in December 2024, is being expanded by a battery storage facility. It continues to be the nation's biggest single-site solar PV facility in operation. AMEA Power's continuous dedication to promoting clean energy innovation and sustainability throughout the continent is shown in this integrated solar-plus-storage initiative, which is in line with Egypt's 2035 Integrated Sustainable Energy Strategy.

"We are pleased to bring this historic battery storage project online, bolstering Egypt's electricity grid's resilience and advancing the nation's renewable energy goals. This milestone in commissioning reaffirms our long-term commitment to Egypt as a key partner in promoting sustainability and innovation throughout Africa." Hussain Al Nowais, Chairman of AMEA Power, stated.

The BESS project's commissioning represents AMEA Power's first utility-scale storage project in North Africa, demonstrating the company's capacity to provide comprehensive, integrated renewable energy and storage solutions on a large scale.

The International Finance Corporation (IFC) provided funding for the project, indicating the need for solid strategic alliances in promoting energy initiatives in Africa.
